Perth Therapy Services
Therapy services emphasises on the rights of people to lead an independent life. Therapy Services providers take in to account the nature of disability, the occupations, the environments and the participants themselves. When working with people with complex needs, therapists need to form a bond and understanding over not just an hour-long meeting but also over a long period of time, so as to better understand their needs. This also involves interacting with the families and other stakeholders to achieve a better outcome for these therapeutic interventions.
The administration of these therapeutic supports are done through the Allied Health team. These are responsible for supporting Participants with evidences, assessments and reports to access and planning decisions made by NDIA delegates (planners) under the NDIS Act.

Allied health providers may:
- refer people to information about who can access the NDIS
- provide supporting evidence as part of an access request, including evidence that the person has or is likely to have a permanent disability.
- provide copies of reports or assessments that describe the extent of the functional impact of the disability.
In Western Australia there is a growing demand of these services range from Speech, Occupational therapy/OT, Behaviour support. Being of a large size, the state has challenges of providing these supports regional areas. Providers now also use technology and visual aid to cater to clients in remote communities. Also based on the disability these therapies will have a different execution in terms of reaching out to the participant.
There are number of ways a person can reach-out to the allied health team like:
- Self-Referral
- GP referral
- Referral from Support worker or
- Family referral.
